‘I am a lover of truth, a worshipper of freedom, a celebrant at the altar of language and purity and tolerance.’
Western weddings seemed to have became engulfed in many conflicting meanings.
Of course there is the consumerist aspect of contemporary weddings that is saddening and maddening but seems to be even more then that.
There is this highly apparent expectation of perfection that has become woven into wedding celebrations.
And this perfection has nothing to do with the relationship between the bride and groom. It is more of a expectation bound up in beauty, success and appeal.
I think that is when the day suddenly loses its focus. The relationship between the bride and groom falls silently into the background as the dress, cake, venue, food ect. steal the attention of the audience.
I want my wedding to be beautiful but I want it to be about our relationship.
I don’t want it be in front of a audience but instead shared with friends.
I want to feel beautiful because I am marrying a man I love not due to the money I have spent on my appearance.
And I wish to look back on my wedding and remember my husband’s smile, my families words, my friend’s faces then recall the dress, venue and cake.
A writer has the duty to be good, not lousy; true, not false; lively, not dull; accurate, not full of error. He should tend to lift people up, not lower them down.
